AR Project using Adobe Aero
What is Augmented Reality?
Augmented Reality (AR) adds digital elements to the camera of your smartphone, creating the illusion that holographic (3-dimensional) content is a part of a physical world around you.
-
AR is imagining something which is not there.
-
It can extends what's there.
-
It can enhance what's there.
Why AR?
-
For a designer, it is all about imagination & for users, it is about expanding their imagination. By using Mixed Reality we are actually making a big shift from the 3rd Person Narrative to the 1st Person Narrative by changing the way of communication using new interfaces.
-
Augmented Reality provides a great way to explore this new area in a very interesting way.
-
One of the major aims of mixed reality is to blend the real world with the virtual world.
The Challenge
-
Co-Authorship :
Instead of dictating the experience on a 2D flat screen, the challenge here is to engage the user and make them the co-author of the story that unfolds.
-
Real-Time Interaction Design:
The challenge here is to keep the user engaged and feel like they are co-authoring/ co-participating and we are not breaking their presence. ( feeling of being there.)
Escape the Reality
Escape the reality is a set of 2 animated illustrations exploring the power of storytelling through augmented reality. To make the illustrations interesting I added elements from architecture and nature like plants and flowers to create a bridge to a different world.
While I was working on this project pandemic was there and hence, I thought this virtual world may bring a smile on someone’s face who is stuck at home for a long time and hence, named the project Escape from Reality.
Personally, this project has helped me to explore my creativity beyond the 2D world and also to bring a smile to people’s faces during such hard times.

The Process
Story Board
I started by just sketching out some ideas that were in my mind. I drew everything on iPad using Procreate app. This helped in selecting the best option to start with.

Color Scheme
I chose some bright colour as I wanted to make the whole illustrations vibrant and happy. I also added some colours to add highlights and shadows.

Adding Animation
I started with a simple 2D illustration and then expanded it to look better in the 3D environment.

Setting up art in Adobe Aero
After I was satisfied with the illustrations I started setting up all the elements in adobe aero and placing them nicely.
